1 THESSALONIANS 5:22

1 Thessalonians 5:22

Avoid every kind of evil.

MEDITATION:

WE ARE TASKED BY GOD TO AVOID EVERY KIND OF EVIL.

IN ANOTHER VERSE, IT IS WRITTEN:

 PSALM 34:14
Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

PART AND PARCEL OF AVOIDING EVIL IS DOING WHAT IS GOOD.

PART OF DOING GOOD IS SEEKING PEACE AND PURSUING PEACE.

1 TIMOTHY 6:18
Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share

PART AND PARCEL OF DOING WHAT IS GOOD IS BEING GENEROUS AND WILLING TO SHARE.

ROMANS 12:8
if it is encouraging, let him encourage;
if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously;
if it is leadership, let him govern diligently;
if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

IN THIS VERSE ARE EXAMPLES OF DOING WHAT IS GOOD.

GIVING ENCOURAGEMENT AT THE RIGHT TIME, CONTRIBUTING TO THE NEED OF OTHERS, BEING MERCIFUL IN THE SPIRIT OF CHEERFULNESS, ARE FEW OF THE EXAMPLES OF DOING WHAT IS GOOD.

1 TIMOTHY 5:10
and is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints, helping those in trouble and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds.

IN THIS VERSE, IT IS INDICATED THAT BRINGING UP CHILDREN IS CONSIDERED GOOD.
SHOWING HOSPITALITY IS ANOTHER GOOD.

HELPING THOSE IN TROUBLE IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF DOING WHAT IS GOOD.

EPHESIANS 4:28
He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.

THIS VERSE INDICATES AN EXAMPLE ON HOW TO AVOID EVIL AND DO WHAT IS GOOD.

THOSE WHO STEAL MUST STOP STEALING.
THOSE WHO HAVE STOPPED STEALING MUST INSTEAD WORK, DOING SOMETHING USEFUL WITH ONE'S OWN HANDS.

THOSE WHO PREVIOUSLY STEAL IS ALSO ENCOURAGED TO SHARE WITH THOSE IN NEED, PROVIDED THAT WHAT THEY SHARE COMES FROM THEIR OWN WORK.

ON THE FOLLOWING VERSES ARE EXAMPLES OF ACTIONS THAT ARE CONSIDERED GOOD:

ROMANS 12:12-13;1

Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.

On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

MAY THESE TEACHINGS BE OF HELP...

GOD BLESS...
