THE LETTER VS. THE SPIRIT: THE OLD VS. THE NEW

LETTER VS. THE SPIRIT:
THE OLD VS. THE NEW:

2 Corinthians 3:6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

THERE IS A NEW COVENANT WITH GOD, WHICH IS SPIRITUAL IN NATURE, AND NOT OF THE LETTER.

THE LETTER KILLS.
THE SPIRIT GIVES LIFE.

Hebrews 10:16 "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds."

THE NEW COVENANT IS SPIRITUAL IN NATURE, THAT GOD WILL PUT IT IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF THOSE WHO ENTERED IT.

Romans 5:10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

WHEN WE ARE RECONCILED WITH GOD THROUGH THE DEATH OF THE SON OF GOD, WE WILL BE SAVED THROUGH HIS RESURRECTION.

Hebrews 8:12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."

Isaiah 43:25 "I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.

AND GOD WILL FORGIVE US FROM OUR WICKEDNESS AND OUR SINS HE WILL FORGET.

Hebrews 9:15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

SINCE THE LETTER OF THE LAW HAS MADE PEOPLE UNRIGHTEOUS, THERE IS A NECESSITY FOR A NEW COVENANT.

CHRIST DIED FOR US AS RANSOM TO SET US FREE FROM THE OLD COVENANT, AND WE ENTER INTO A NEW COVENANT WITH GOD.

Hebrews 8:13 By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

THEREFORE, BECAUSE OF THE NEW COVENANT, THE FIRST COVENANT BECOME OBSOLETE.

Hebrews 8:6 But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

THE  NEW COVENANT IS SUPERIOR TO THE OLD ONE, AND IS FOUNDED ON BETTER PROMISES.

HEBREWS 8:7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.

THERE ARE FLAWS IN THE EFFECT OF THE FIRST COVENANT.

Galatians 2:16 know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.

THE LAW REFERRED HERE IS THE FIRST COVENANT.
THE FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST IS A PREREQUISITE IN ENTERING THE NEW COVENANT.

THE FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST WILL RESULT IN ENTERING THE NEW COVENANT, WHEREIN THE PROVISIONS THEREOF IS NOT OF THE LETTER OF THE LAW, BUT BY THE SPIRIT.

Acts 13:39 Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.

AS A BELIEVER OF CHRIST JESUS, WE BECOME JUSTIFIED BY THE SPIRIT, NOT BY THE STANDARDS OF THE LAW OF MOSES.

Romans 3:20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

FOR NO ONE WILL BE RIGHTEOUS IN OBSERVING THE OLD COVENANT.
THE OLD COVENANT MADE PEOPLE CONSCIOUS OF SIN.

Hebrews 7:19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.

THE LAW OF MOSES MADE NOTHING PERFECT.
THEREFORE, THE NEW COVENANT IS NEEDED FOR A BETTER HOPE TO BE INTRODUCED, SO THAT WE MAY DRAW NEAR TO GOD.

Galatians 3:19 What, then, was the purpose of the law?
It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was put into effect through angels by a mediator.

THE LAWS OF THE FIRST COVENANT WAS MADE BECAUSE OF THE TRANSGRESSIONS OF THE PEOPLE.

THIS WAS PUT INTO PLACE UNTIL THE COMING OF THE SEED- WHICH IS THE PROMISED MESSIAH.

WHEN THE MESSIAH COME, THE OLD COVENANT WAS REPLACED WITH THE NEW.

Hebrews 7:27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

Hebrews 10:14 because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

Hebrews 10:10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all

BY THE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST JESUS, WE ARE CLEANSED FROM OUR SINS, AND WE HAVE BEEN MADE HOLY.

WHEN WE ENTER INTO THE NEW COVENANT WITH CHRIST, WHAT ARE WE EXPECTED TO DO?

Ephesians 5:1-2 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

WHAT ARE WE TO IMITATE OF GOD?

Luke 6:36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

BE MERCIFUL

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

BE KIND, COMPASSIONATE, AND FORGIVING.

Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

BE KIND, COMPASSIONATE, HUMBLE, GENTLE AND PATIENT.

1 John 4:16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

GOD IS LOVE- THEREFORE, WE MUST ALSO LOVE.

THEREFORE, WE MUST EMBODY LOVE AND THE VIRTUES THAT ARE IN UNITY WITH LOVE.

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud

SINCE LOVE IS GOD, AND LOVE IS PATIENT, KIND, DOES NOT ENVY, DOES NOT BOAST, AND IS NOT PROUD, WE MUST BE THIS TOO.

1 Corinthians 13:5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

SINCE LOVE IS GOD, AND LOVE IS NOT RUDE, NOT SELF-SEEKING, NOT EASILY ANGERED, AND KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS, WE MUST BE THIS TOO.

1 Corinthians 13:6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

SINCE LOVE DOES NOT DELIGHT IN EVIL, WE MUST ALSO NOT DELIGHT IN EVIL.
SINCE LOVE REJOICES WITH THE TRUTH, WE ALSO REJOICE WITH THE TRUTH.

THE TRUTH REFERRED HERE WHOM WE REJOICE WITH IS:

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

WE REJOICE WITH THE TRUTH, WHICH IS OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

1 Corinthians 13:7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

AS LOVE ALWAYS PROTECT, WE PROTECT.
AS LOVE ALWAYS TRUSTS, WE TRUST.
AS LOVE ALWAYS HOPES, WE HOPE.
AS LOVE ALWAYS PERSEVERES, WE PERSEVERE.

WHO DO WE PROTECT? WE PROTECT THE TEACHINGS OF GOD IN OUR HEARTS.
WE PROTECT OUR BRETHREN IN CHRIST AND WE DO NOT BE THEIR JUDGE, NOR BE THE ONES TO CONDEMN THEM.

WHO DO WE TRUST? WE TRUST IN GOD ALWAYS.

WHO DO WE HOPE? WE HOPE IN GOD ALWAYS.

WHAT DO WE ALWAYS PERSEVERE?

John 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

John 15:12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

John 15:17 This is my command: Love each other.

Hebrews 13:1 Keep on loving each other as brothers.

WE PERSEVERE IN LOVING ONE ANOTHER TILL THE END.

GOD BLESS EVERYONE.
